Here is the list of nominees for the Georgia Children's Book Award. Students who will be in 4th,  5th, or 6th grade in the fall of 2015, should consider these titles for summer reading. These are the books that students will read for the  the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl in Jan. 2016. Start early!

Deron Hicks, author of The Shakespeare Mysteries, visited 5th grade students at Garrett. He also went to National Hills and Tutt on Monday, March 23rd. A graduate of Evans High School, Mr. Hicks encouraged students to discover more about the most famous author in the English language. Thanks to The Book Tavern  for sponsoring the visit!

4th and 5th graders attended a beautiful concert by Symphony Orchestra Augusta February 12th.  Students collaborated with singing and recorders.

Here is information regarding the proposal to merge Garrett with National Hills Elementary School:

The school board finalized plans to merge the schools beginning the 2015-16 school year. Mrs. LaJuana Quarles has been named principal of National Hills and Garrett Elementary Schools beginning in 2014-15. Ms. Cindy Scoggins will be the assistant principal of both schools.
