Our Story

T. Harry Garrett opened its doors in 1954. Mr. A.D. Gaskin was appointed the first principal. It is just over a half a mile from the famous Augusta National Golf Course, the site of the Masters Golf Tournament. Prior to 1984, Garrett Elementary housed grades third through seventh, and students in Kindergarten through second grade attended a neighboring school called National Hills. Starting in 1985, Garrett began offering kindergarten through fifth grades. Currently, Garrett houses prekindergarten through fifth grade students. A new gymnasium was opened in April of 2000. This was funded by the Richmond County Parks and Recreation and the Richmond County Board of Education in Augusta. This partnership is the first one of its kind in Augusta. During the 2009-2010 school year, Garrett held its first classes in the new school building and in 2015, the school grew as it merged with neighboring National Hills Elementary School. Garrett has teachers that specialize in Special Education, Gifted, Dance and Drama, Music, Art, Orchestra, and Physical Education classes.

College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) is Georgia’s statewide accountability system. The CCRPI assesses how well students are prepared for college and careers, and ensures that schools are focused on improving achievement among all students. The index measures student achievement on indicators such as content mastery, student growth on progress, subgroup performance on closing gaps, and various areas including Lexile performance, attendance, and other academic based measurements. Schools earn CCRPI points based on indicators that vary by grade and school level and align with measures of college- and career-readiness.  Each individual component score is on a scale of 0-100. Additional data for CCRPI can be found at this address: https://ccrpi.gadoe.org/
